Weekly Recap: Training Reboot Week 7 (5/7-5/13)

Weekly recap May 7-13

ot, Hot, Hot! (Finally)

Summer is here! And shockingly, I'm actually pretty glad about that. After 6 years, I think I've actually acclimated to the Southern summer heat to the point where my body prefers to run in it as opposed to the cold. We'll see if I'm still singing that tune in August, but for now, I'm liking my hotter runs.

Other than running in the heat, I'm happy to be spending more time in the water and less time wearing big hoodies to try to fend off the cold.

This week was definitely a good one and I'm pleased in general with my progress on this reboot.

Monday

No workout. I'm definitely in the okay with missing a Monday crowd. So I missed Monday and went to the pool in the evening.

Tuesday

Tuesday I headed out for some easy miles with temps well into the 70s and the humidity climbing (although, this was my coolest run of the week), but I felt great the entire run. In the evening, I headed to F45 for a strength workout after work.

Wednesday

I've got to figure out Wednesdays a little better. I don't really want to be taking a day off from workouts on Wednesdays, but I'm not sure I want to add a 5th running day in every week either. Once I can get myself to the track in the evenings (if my husband's travel schedule ever lets up and/or we find a new regular babysitter), this will work itself out, but until then, I want to find a different workout other than running.

But I haven't figured out Wednesday yet and work was busy, so no workout.

Thursday

I was supposed to do speedwork on Thursday, but I got out later than I wanted to be and it was hot so I ran easy instead. I had an event in the evening so that didn't leave me time to get to F45 for my post-work strength workout. But I'm okay with skipping that to hang out with friends and drink wine.

It might be hot, but at least I've got some shade for part of my route

Friday

Continuing my Water Workout Day on Friday, I went to the neighborhood pool for a 25 minute swim. Maybe I'll be strong enough by the end of the summer with swimming to think about training for a sprint tri?

Saturday

I went out with the intent of an easy 3-miler, but I felt so freaking good once I got out there that I decided to push my pace just a little to see how I felt (and since I skipped speedwork on Thursday). I didn't go all-out, but I definitely moved faster than I normally do on my runs. But it didn't feel as hard as I expected it to, so there's some progress, I suppose.

Sunday

I didn't really want anything for Mother's Day other than a nice long run and a break! I ran 8 miles out by the sound and even though it hot and 100% humidity, I felt really good the whole time. I'm happy with this whole not minding the heat as much thing I've currently got going on.

See that clearing past the marsh? That's the Ocean. And that treeline beyond is an island. Life isn't so bad when these are my running views.

After my run, we headed to brunch at Sol where I had delicious huevos rancheros and a sangria. And we ended the day by hanging out at the beach. All in all? A good day.

How was your week? Did you do anything exciting for Mother's Day? Are you enjoying warmer temps where you are?
